At a Christmas Ball last week! |
My first absolute rule and piece of advice is DON'T PANIC! It is just one day and whatever you do can be undone. What's more, it's Christmas! I will be enjoying my pigs in blankets and I will not feel guilty! Remember; everything in moderation!
Here are some more tips I've found to eat healthy at Christmas because believe me, I know, temptation is all around!!
First off, with the big feast, fill your plate with tonnes of veggies! Greens are obviously good for you but will also fill you up! Eat your veggies before your roast potatoes and you will not eat nearly as many!
In addition to this, the turkey in itself is possibly the best meat option you could go for so no need to feel guilty about that because as a meat and a protein, it's super clean and lean!
When it comes to drinks, my number one rule that I class as essential is for every alcoholic drink you consume, drink a glass of water! Keep a 1:1 ratio, and you will drink less alcohol, prevent getting drunk and embarrassing in front of family (made that mistake last year!) and keep up your daily water intake.
With regard to what you drink, vodka and slimline tonic is your best option or diet sodas aren't terrible but there are better options. Avoid sugary cocktails (avoid sugar in general) and sugar filled mixers (the ones that make you feel like your teeth are going to fall out after more than one - yes I'm referring to Southern Comfort!) Of course not drinking is also an option!!
In my family, we are big on appetisers and nibbles! By that I mean potato chips, dips and other bad eats! The way to combat this is stay away from the Doritos and stick to the chopped veggies like carrots and celery. Make your own clean guacamole and hummus (recipes are all OVER) the web and voila! Another of my favourite substitutes are kale chips. Buy a bag of kale, roast in a pan until it crisps, sprinkle with sea salt and voila! Chopped up whole wheat pitta chips are also a great option, the lovely Bridget Nicole has a video that I use alllll the time! If you're not hosting Christmas as yours there is no shame in bringing your own! Your host will probably be grateful for the help!
Finally, it's an old rule but it's probably the best one out there!! PORTION CONTROL PEOPLE! Do not load up your plate to the point of overflow! Yes it's Christmas and we love to eat but enjoy everything in moderation! Enjoy your Christmas cake but don't cut yourself a slice three inches wide!
Stay tuned for a family favourite recipe coming soon! Mum's Special Sprouts!!
Love and Hugs,
Georgie x
