Nachos are my absolute go-to 100% favourite meal! You know when you get asked; 'what would you want to be your last meal?', Nachos will be my answer; without a shadow of a doubt
However, we all know that nachos are not the best thing for us to eat, between tonnes of cheese, chips and sour cream - it makes for a pretty calorific fat-filled meal.
Until now.
Today I am sharing with you, my little tips and tricks to make fatty nachos a thing of the past, and showing you how you can incorporate these beauties in to your meal plans!
What's great is that instead of using sugar-filled, bulked out, crappy store bought dips, you make your own, and instead of using horrifically unhealthy chips, you use wholewheat pitta bread!
HOW GOOD DO THESE LOOK! *Salivating!* |
It's a little bit of a combination of recipes so I'll split it up accordingly! It's all my own recipe apart from the salsa :)
For the 'Chips' you will need:
Wholewheat Pitta Bread (Depending on the amount of nachos you need/want)
Sea Salt
Spray Oil
Baking Trays (yes multiple!)
For the Guacamole you will need:
At least two avocados
1 Red Onion (chopped)
2 Cloves of Garlic
Chilli Powder/Flakes (Optional - I like the kick)
Sea Salt
Juice of a Lime
For the Salsa; Follow this recipe
For the Sour Cream you will need:
1 pot of Plain Chobani/Greek Yogurt (I prefer Chobani)
Optional Extras:
Jalapeños
Reduced Fat Cheese
Method
Start by making your dips!
Guacamole
Take your avocados, remove from skin, put into large bowl
Using a fork mash the avocado but make sure it remains pretty chunky
(Tip: leave the pit in the bowl with the avocado - it will stop it from browning)
Add the lime juice, garlic, red onion, salt and chilli and stir!
Refrigerate until needed
Chips
Basically, you want to cut your pitta into triangles!
Start by cutting your pitta in to two vertical halves
Along the diagonal, make into triangles, pulling apart as you go (the two sides of the pitta)
Place triangles on a baking tray, spray with 0 cal spray or spray oil
Sprinkle sea salt over
Bake on a medium heat for 10 minutes - bake sure they don't burn but they should be crispy
To Serve
Pile all of your chips onto a large serving plate
If you want some cheese, use about an inch of reduced fat cheddar, grate it and sprinkle over the chips, place in the oven for literally a minute!
Add 2 tbsps-ish of Chobani in place of sour cream
Add your Skinnytaste Salsa
Add your Guac
Add your jalepeños if needed
And Enjoy!!
