As the New Year rolled in I (as I always do!) caught the bug for reorganisation and tidying! Having been away from my bedroom in the UK for so long, coming back to it with fresh eyes was definitely a good thing! I had plenty of ideas to make the place look a bit tidier. By that evening, thanks to a little bit of help from Ikea, my whole room had been transformed and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. See below for more detail!
Make Up Drawer
This is the make-over I am most excited about! I'm really pleased with how this turned out as I have wanted a professional makeup area for what feels like forever!
Before its transformation, my Make-Up Drawer was relatively organised. There were extra things in it that had been put away, such as the bubble wrap (bottom left) and the photo frames (left) whilst I was studying abroad just to make my room easier to clean. Other than that, things did have a prescribed place in the baskets pictured. What I didn't like was how cluttered it felt and how I would have to dig around to find what I was looking for.
I picked up four of the Ikea Billengen Drawer Inserts at 80p each. Not only are they a bargain, they're made of plastic so they're also going to be much easier to clean than the wicker baskets I had before. I like having the separate compartments for each type of my vastly expanding make up collection! It was, however, difficult to picture what would go where as I had only bought my day-to-day make up back from Arizona to use over Christmas. When I get home in May, I expect this drawer to be much more organised!
The chest of drawers is the Ikea Malm Chest of 3 Drawers.
Wardrobe
Prior to the makeover, the middle section of wardrobe was home to my perfume, skincare and hair products. Similarly to my make up drawer, everything had a place it was just very cluttered. I wanted it to look cleaner and more structured.
From the before picture, the white basket would normally be in the bottom left hand corner. All of my skincare products were in it and the hair products you can see on the bottom shelf lived behind it.
For this makeover, I bought the Godmorgon Set of 5 Acrylic Boxes (£10) and the Transom Mirror (£3.50). After seeing Karena from Tone It Up's Home Tour, I really wanted individual storage for my cotton wool/pads/buds so the Godmorgon boxes were perfect for that! I moved all of these out from my make up drawer and put them on the top shelf. The wicker boxes behind them are empty!! I didn't have anything left to put in it but the space looked so empty without anything as the shelves are really deep!
The bottom shelf uses the remaining 2 boxes from the Godmorgon set. I used the lid from one as a tray for my perfume and the boxes for daily skincare and jewellery. The mirror was a freaking nightmare! In typical Ikea fashion it was flat packed (it's a mirror?!) and it took both my mum and I to assemble it because it was physically impossible for one person due to the shape of it! I do feel as though it makes a good addition!
TV Shelving
This area definitely needed the most attention. The end table the TV was on is easily 10 years old and it just got in the way all o the time! As you can see the box beside the table is fraying and is probably just as old - it was second hand when I got it! The only thing inside the box were hair tools - my hair dryer, straighteners and two curling irons.
I picked up the Billy Bookcase in black-brown to match the rest of my bedroom furniture with 3 Drona boxes to hide all of my things! Just like the wardrobe, there was a lot of extra space here! The top box has got my hair tools as well as the hair products that used to be in the wardrobe. The second box has extra skin care products, excess of other things as well as a first aid kid and medicinal things! The final draw, as you can see has nail polish, nail polish remover and lots of extra room!
Overall I'm thrilled with the tiny expenditure to make my bedroom so much more liveable and to my taste. So much so, I can't wait to get home to it all!
Do you get the organisation bug in January? What are some of your secrets?
Love
