On New Year's Day, I was up for a challenge. I had not ran in an organised event since my half marathon in February 2012 so I jumped at the chance to run a Colour Run with the Tone It Up Arizona girls. The Colour Run has been on my radar for a while now and I've wanted to run one for ages! I had signed up for one in September 2014 but it got rained off! I was devastated as I had really been looking forward to it so I couldn't wait for this race. What made it even better was that it was part of the new Colour Run - the Shine Tour! Think Colour Run + Glitter!
It turns out that all of my fears were totally unwarranted. I had a lot of fun and outdid myself in terms of my expectations! We were absolutely in the minority by walking so I probably ended up running 4 miles trying to weave in and out of people. The course was also not easy! There were a lot of steep hills that were challenging so I'm proud of myself for running the whole thing.
The "Shine" aspect to the race was disappointing. There were the normal colour stations at roughly half mile intervals then the final station was where you got the glitter! It was not what I was expecting at all and in all honesty the Color Run website was a bit deceiving. If you're running in the Shine Tour, do not expect a lot of glitter! A tip for future runners too - the colour burns your lips!! My lips are still so sore three days after. I'm not sure what it is but no amount of chap stick is helping Also - the blue is an absolute pain to wash off of your skin.
All in all, I had a great morning at the Colour Run. Would I do another one? Probably not. However I really did have fun doing it and I'm glad I went for it. I loved the atmosphere, I loved the endorphin rush and I loved that race-day feeling again.
Have you ever done a Colour Run? Would you want to?
Love Always
