Just like you protect your skin during sun exposure, you should also protect your hair! Ever since moving to Arizona, I have been really conscious about the desert heat and sun doing some serious damage to my hair. I have coloured my hair in the past and it has been bleached, which further added to my concerns. My hair always lighter after exposure to the sun as well, proof of the Sun's effects - protecting my hair was imperative.
That being said, I've developed a fail-safe haircare routine with products that I would repurchase over and over again. This routine has been foolproof in protecting my hair and my hairdresser has commented on what great condition it's in! I think my hair is in the best condition it's ever been in - thanks to these tips.
With summer months and warmer weather just around the corner, these inexpensive products and easy tips are a must have for anyone!
Firstly, I switched my go-to shampoo/conditioner duo to one that has extra protection or repair qualities. Recently I've been loving this Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner set. However with that being said, I will tend to buy whatever's on offer so there are ALWAYS alternatives! One that has Argan Oil in it would also be great.
Secondly, every time I've washed my hair, without fail I will spray in a heat defence spray as well as an Argan Oil leave-in conditioner. I have been using the Creme Of Nature Argan Oil Leave In Conditioner (see below picture for UK links) for years and I swear by it. It's so cheap and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone. It works incredibly well! As far as a heat defence spray goes, I don't really have a favourite but, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with Tresemme! I'm using a travel size one from UK hairstylist Leo Bancroft at the moment, which is really affordable for a professional grade product.
Whether I let my hair air dry or if I blow-dry it, I will use both of these products! Both leave my hair soft, shiny and full of moisture - essential if you're subjecting your hair to long sun exposure.

I'm also a great fan of hair masks, such as Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle Masks (US/UK) for an affordable option. As I'm living out here, I try to do a hair mask once a month. If I'm on vacation for longer than a week I will do one in the middle of my time or if it's just a week, once I get home.
These simple additions can make a huge difference to your hair's health. In my case it has meant little to no sun-damage since I've been in Arizona and my hair is the healthiest it's ever been. I have almost no breakage and my hair is never dry!
Are you looking forward to summer as much as I am?
Love Always,
