I know green smoothies can be scary but I promise you that you cannot taste whatever greens you put in them! Green smoothies are a great way to add superfoods in to your diet. Superfoods are full of just about every vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and health-boosting benefits you can imagine. See below for more information, and some recipes!
A superfood is essentially a highly nutrient dense food, so naturally are hugely beneficial for your health. For example, spinach, a commonly available, really cheap superfood packs in large amounts of Iron, Vitamin A, B2, C and K as well as being rich in magnese and magnesium. Vitamin K is particularly difficult to find in other foods and serves to synthesise proteins to reveal those sculpted muscles you work so hard in the gym for! Iron, of course, increases the quality of your blood. I don't want to bore you with tons of nutritional facts - but you get the picture!
Imagine the benefits from ingesting numerous superfood's in one go?
Putting superfood's in a smoothie is just about the easy way to incorporate them in to your diet and reap all of the rewards from these nutrient dense foods. I'm not sure about you, but I would much rather consume nutrients in their raw, natural state, rather than ingesting them in a capsule from the drug-store.
My favourite superfoods to throw in to my blender to boost my smoothies are Spinach or other leafy greens like Kale, Berries, Chia Seeds, Spirulina and Ground Flaxseeds. I'll throw any number of these in at a time (pay attention to recommended allowances of Spirulina and Flax and watch the berries for sugar but otherwise go for it!)
My go-to smoothie base is (as pictured)
- 1/4 cup frozen Mango
- 2/3 cup Coconut Milk (less if you prefer a thicker consistency)
- 1 packet of Perfect Fit Coconut Water - or 1 cup normal water (less if you prefer a thicker consistency)
- Ice
- 1 cup + of Spinach (I normally do 2-3 large handfuls)
- 1 scoop of Perfect Fit Protein if I'm wanting a larger meal
and then I just throw in whatever superfood's I feel like!
You will notice a taste difference at all - I promise! And you will have added so many extra vitamins, minerals and nutrients! What's not to love?
I challenge you all to throw some spinach in a blender and see if you like the difference and feel better for it!
Love Always
