Having become quite the regular on long-haul flights recently, I've become well accustomed to packing my hand luggage to be ready for the flight. There are things I just will not travel without and you can see what those things are below! Long Haul is technically any flight longer than 6 hours so these essentials will benefit a lot of people!
The bag pictured is the Michael Kors Jetset Travel East West Tote in Luggage/Gold. How fitting! This is what I travelled back from Arizona with last week and it was the perfect size for everything I needed.
Empty Water Bottle
I always travel with an empty bottle - obviously I don't keep it empty once I'm through security but it's always useful to be able to drink when you want to, not when the drinks service is going through the cabin. It's also no secret how easy it is to become dehydrated when flying so drink up - you'll thank yourself for it! The bottle pictured is from Tone It Up.
Headphones
Self explanatory. I've heard Beats headphones are really good at blocking out background noise which obviously would be useful when you're trying to sleep but my Apple ones work fine. I also find the case they come in now really handy for travelling.
Travel Document Wallet
I love being organised and knowing where everything is makes for a much less stressful travel experience. This organiser has two pockets that I use for my passport and boarding passes and then a zip pocket where I have my travel insurance stored as well as any currency I've got that's not the one I'm using! The wallet pictured is from Cath Kidston.
Scarf
I always travel long-haul with a lightweight, but cozy scarf. The one in the photo above is a Lululemon Vinyasa Scarf and I LOVE how versatile it is. It's expensive for a scarf but worth every single penny. On long-haul flights scarves are great to use as blankets to help try and get to sleep.
Socks
This is along the same methodology as a scarf. If you'r going to be in one environment for 10+ hours, you may as well be comfortable. That being said, I always travel long-haul with comfortable socks. The ones pictured are actually flight socks from a flight I took years ago. Even if I'm wearing another everyday pair I'll always bring an extra cosy pair.
Magazines
A few weeks before I know I'm going to travel I start stockpiling magazines. I'll take them from friends and buy some at the airport too - anything to keep me occupied! I also like, when I'm travelling with others, to each buy one magazine and swap during the flight.
Moisturisers/Hand Cream
If your skin doesn't dry out when flying you're so lucky! I travel with a hand cream and body moisturiser and I'll apply it liberally throughout the entire flight. The face moisturiser pictured is the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and the body butter is from Whish. A great idea is to buy travel size versions of your favourites to save room and to comply with security regulations.
Perfume
It's nice to feel somewhat normal and refreshed when you step off of the plane the next day! Perfume helps me feel a little less disgusting. The one pictured is Victoria's Secret Bombshell - again in a travel size.
Lip Balm/Chapstick
Just like your skin, your lips are prone to getting dried out when flying. I always have lip balm in my bag anyway but I make a point to apply it more regularly on a plane. Pictured is one of my favourites, the ELF Lip Exfoliator, but I also really like Nivea's Lip Care Sun Protect SPF 30.
Other
Other items that aren't pictured that I always travel with include my phone and iPad.
I also make a point not to wear make up for a long-haul flight but I as I mentioned I like to step off the plane feeling somewhat human so just before landing I'll apply some bronzer or blush, some eyeliner and mascara; quickly and with minimal effort. I've usually got a tinted lip balm in my bag somewhere that I'll also use.
I always travel with anti-bacterial hand gel - my favourites are from Bath and Body Works but I'm not that fussy!
Also a given are my purse and keys!
That's it! Do you have any long-haul travel staples or tips? I would love to hear them!
Love Always
